bolt.new is an AI-powered, full-stack web development platform that allows users to create, run, edit, and deploy web applications directly from their browser. It removes the need for local setup and enables developers and non-developers to build working prototypes and production-grade applications quickly by using plain English prompts. The platform’s version 2 was announced at the end of September 2025. 

How bolt.new works

• AI with environment control: Unlike other AI coding tools, bolt.new integrates large AI models with a full-stack development environment that runs in the browser via StackBlitz’s WebContainers. The AI agent can manage the entire application lifecycle, with control over the file system, server, package manager, and terminal.

• Simplified app building: A user simply types a description of the desired app (e.g., “Build a blog site using Astro and Tailwind”) and the AI generates the complete project, including files, dependencies, and code.

• Mobile and web development: In addition to web applications, bolt.new can build mobile apps using Expo, a toolchain for creating iOS and Android apps with React Native.

• Instant deployment: For web projects, the platform integrates with Netlify for instant deployment.

• Version 2 release: bolt.new announced the launch of its Version 2 on September 30, 2025. The update focuses on the use of advanced AI agents for building.

• Partnership with Anthropic: A recent blog post announced that all Bolt users will get access to Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 4 model, rolling out in early October 2025.
